Established in 1967, Beekay Engineering Corporation began its journey manufacturing equipment and spares for Bhilai Steel Plant. Over the decades, it became a trusted OEM partner for India’s leading steel plants including Rourkela, Durgapur, and Bokaro. Expanding into turnkey project execution in 1987, Beekay has delivered critical infrastructure across segments such as Iron Making, Steel Making, Rolling Mills, Coke Plants, Non-Ferrous Manufacturing, and Oil & Gas, often in collaboration with global technology leaders. Operating from a vast 125,000 m² facility with over 100 modern machine tools, Beekay is ISO 9001:2000 certified and holds API accreditation, including approval for unfired pressure vessels from the Department of Explosives.
Business Challenge
While many companies struggle with poor infrastructure or outdated software, Beekay faced a unique challenge—they already had a robust and user-friendly in-house IT system supported by a high-end infrastructure. However, their systems lacked end-to-end integration and scalability to manage the complexity of growing EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) operations.
The major challenges included:
- Migrating highly skilled users from a familiar in-house system to a new ERP.
- Managing multiple business scenarios including turnkey projects, job work, and product sales.
- Ensuring tight integration between engineering, procurement, manufacturing, and finance.
- Meeting the demands of a highly educated and tech-savvy user base.
Solution
To support its diverse and complex operations, Beekay selected IFS Applications 7.5 with a full suite of modules tailored to project-centric, engineer-to-order businesses. IFS was chosen for its robust EPC capabilities, flexible process modeling, and strong local implementation support.
The solution enabled Beekay to:
- Consolidate multiple legacy systems into a single, integrated ERP platform.
- Manage diverse project types including turnkey and non-turnkey contracts, repeat product manufacturing, and job work.
- Establish tight integration between project execution and finance, enabling real-time visibility into project progress, costs, and profitability.
- Empower core users with ownership of the system through structured training and knowledge transfer.
